As Stanley
Stanley as a youth is just as enigmatic and oblique as he will be when he grows up. In his dreams he is The Man so he spends a lot of time dreaming. As we will learn through the series, as the mystery of his life is slowly unravelled, Stanley dreams because the dreams are better than his reality. He’s a kid who has been passed around his family, living here for a while before moving someplace else and starting over again.
Now he’s living with an aunty who certainly does not believe in sparing the rod or spoiling the child and a Palagi uncle who’s pretty cool but is ultimately more interested in smoking dope and listening to music than actual parenting. So what Stanley does is he dreams and he dances and he tries, mostly unsuccessfully, not to be the guy that attracts trouble. Stanley is The Mystery Man.
About Dallas (15): Massey High School student Dallas is the youngest of four siblings. He says acting was always on his
radar, but it was his mother who showed him the casting advert for the “Sione’s spin-off” and encouraged him to audition for his first ever acting gig which he describes as having been ‘tremendous and amazing’. Despite his self-doubt, when he landed the dream job on his first try, he made the decision to put 100% into the role. While his father used to DJ, he admits his siblings have the sporty gene - and he’s the only one to pursue performing arts. When it comes to dancing - a prerequisite for the role - Dallas is bashful saying he can move ‘a little bit’ - only to reveal he’s represented New Zealand twice at the New Zealand Hip Hop International competitions in 2018 and 2019 - the second time coming home with a bronze medal.
